Racism in Health Care
If you are white, you probably have no idea that quality health care is not as readily available to Black and Brown communities, even when they have access to the same facilities. You might not be aware of the maternal and infant mortality rate and how it differs significantly between White and Black people. Or the difference in how you are treated by doctors and nurses when describing symptoms in your own body. This page focuses on racism in medical care, which is a topic that cannot possibly be covered fully. It should be a means to starting your own search for the truth.
"In the wealthiest nation in the world, black women are dying in childbirth at rates comparable to those in poorer, colonized nations. The CDC says that black women are 243 percent more likely to die from pregnancy or childbirth-related causes than are white women."
Can you imagine being pregnant and in distress and being treated like you don't know your own body? Read this article to show what it can be like to be Black and needing medical care.
