Support Black and Brown Political Candidates

​

Representation facilitates change!  Vote!  Get others to vote.  Volunteer, phone bank, join writing campaigns, give financial support.  And most of all, protect the right to vote in oppressed communities!  

 

Here is a list of some of the Black and Brown candidates nationwide and a few to take note of below.

Act to Divest Police Budgets and Invest in Black Communities

Speak up to End Police Contracts in Schools
​

Let's end the school to prison pipeline and unequal treatment for Black and Brown students!  Schools around the nation have begun looking at alternatives to police and security guards in schools, who disproportionally penalize Black and Brown children.

​

ACT!

  • Contact local legislators, city councils, mayors, governors and school boards to show your support for existing efforts and to encourage others to start their own. 

  • Encourage them use the budget to replace police officers in schools with more  effective resources, such as school counselors and community programs. 

  • Demand that they remove security guards, which are separate contracts.

Support Black-owned businesses
​

​

Give financial support
​
  • to development projects that build from within in Black and Brown communities 

  • to community programs that empower Black and Brown communities

  • to local and national programs fighting for civil rights

  • to truth in reporting by supporting community-led or public news outlets

  • to Black and Brown political candidates, locally and nationally

  • to organizations fighting for voting rights 

  • to bail funds 

  • to educators and organizations working to teach others about systemic racism and white privilege

  • to organizations fighting against gun violence, which hits Black and Brown communities harder

Support the organizations listed on the Programs and Resources tabs

  • Give to any of these organizations in Minnesota, recommended by Reclaim the Block. 

  • Join mailing lists to stay informed.

  • Take the lead of Black and Brown led organizations and find ways to support them.

  • Join rallies and protest marches.

  • Get involved in the work, volunteer, join conversations, expand your community.​
